Waterman Fund Mission

Fund Objectives

The Waterman Fund's objective is to strengthen the human stewardship of the open summits, exposed ridgelines, and alpine areas of the Northeast.

The fund annually awards grants between $1,000 and $5,000 to non-profit organizations and governmental agencies responsible for these areas. We encourage individual applications through sponsoring organizations.

The fund is also proud to award annually the Waterman Fund Steward Award.

Types of Projects the Fund Will Support

  • Educational summit steward and ridge runner programs that include low impact trail maintenance
  • Trail maintenance and reconstruction projects that include low-key, on-site education
  • Research projects that include a strong on-site educational component.
  • Alpine stewardship projects that reflect the ethics found in Laura and Guy Waterman's writing.
