2014 Essay Contest Announced!

The Waterman Fund announces its seventh annual essay contest with a new theme centered on the value and identity of wilderness fifty years after the Wilderness Act of 1964. With the conservation and preservation efforts of the last fifty years, the value of wilderness has also changed. Has the increasing awareness and stewardship of public lands shifted our personal and cultural understandings and needs for wild places? How and why, if at all, does Wilderness still matter? What Wilderness and wilderness mean are open to question and interpretation by nonfiction essay contestants.  The deadline for submissions is April 15th and the winners are announced by the end of June.
